Sudbury Water District is updating the color of the bonnets on our hydrants this summer to reflect the National Fire Protection Association standards for fire flows. NFPA 291 “Recommended Practice for Fire Flow Testing and Marking of Hydrants.” Colored hydrant bonnets will assist Fire professionals in recognizing available flows from hydrants in our distribution system:
BLUE BONNETS → Available Fire Flow is GREATER than 1,500 GPM
GREEN BONNETS → Available Fire Flow is BETWEEN 1,000 GPM and 1,500 GPM
ORANGE BONNETS → Available Fire Flow is LESS than 1,000 GPM
