Emergency Water Main Repair/Water Outage: Eddy Street at Brookdale Road Intersection

Thursday, November 9, 2023
6 pm – 1 am (approx.)

Exact Utility Construction Location:
Eddy Street (between the intersections of Brookdale Road and Landham Road)

Water Service Outage:
Eddy Street

Outage Duration:
7 hours (estimate)

Reason for Outage:
Emergency Repair/Broken Water Main

Please Be advised: An emergency water main repair is underway on Eddy Street at the intersection of Brookdale Road. Water service on Eddy Street (between the intersections of Brookdale Road and Landham Road) will be temporarily suspended today during the hours of 6 pm – 1 am (approx.) to allow for this repair. Water service is anticipated to be restored late tonight by 1 am. Homes and businesses in close proximity to this area of town may experience fluctuating pressure (air in pipes) or discolored water (mineral sediment lifting from the bottom of the pipes and traveling with the water-flow inside the main.) Running your water after construction is complete from a cold tap briefly will assist in clearing your service line of air and minerals.

Is the water safe to drink? Slight discoloration may sometimes linger for a few hours, it is not harmful to your health and only temporarily affects the appearance of the water, it does not influence water quality. Water conditions typically improve overnight.

For further information please contact our business office at (978) 443-6602.

Preparing for a water outage:

  • Fill pots on the stove with water for cooking
  • Fill a couple of buckets with water for washing
  • Fill potable water containers for drinking (assume about one gallon of drinking water per person per day)
  • Fill bathtubs with water and use buckets to flush toilets, a toilet will flush when approximately a gallon of water is dumped into the bowl

During a water outage:

  • Try not to operate water faucets, dishwashers, or washing machines. This will prevent air from entering your plumbing.

Once water service is restored:

  • Flush your plumbing lines by opening a large tap while all other taps remain closed. The bathtub(s) in a home are ideal for this task. Open the cold-water valve in the bathtub. Listen for hissing and spitting, a sign that air remains in the line. Run the water to flush sediment (minerals) until it is clear, and no additional air bubbles are released.
