Planned Water Utility Maintenance: Wednesday, September 16, 2026 – Union Avenue

UNION AVENUE HYDRANT REPAIR

The Sudbury Water District will be performing necessary repairs to a broken hydrant located between 1 and 15 Union Avenue. Work is scheduled to begin at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16, and will continue throughout the day until the necessary repairs have been completed.

What to Expect

  • District crews and equipment will assemble at the work site at approximately 8:00 a.m.
  • No interruption of water service is anticipated.
  • Union Avenue will remain open to through traffic during construction activities.
  • Temporary traffic impacts may occur as crews and equipment access the work area.

Motorists and Pedestrians

Please use caution when traveling or walking near the work area.

Motorists should:

  • Allow additional travel time.
  • Reduce speed and use caution around District vehicles, construction equipment, and personnel.

Pedestrians should:

  • Avoid the immediate work area when possible.
  • Use caution around construction crews, equipment, and open excavation areas.

Important Information

Underground utility work is unpredictable, despite careful planning and coordination. Unexpected field conditions encountered during excavation could alter the timing or scope of the work or, if necessary, require a temporary interruption of water service.

While no service interruption is anticipated, customers in the area are encouraged to take reasonable precautions in the event an unexpected interruption becomes necessary. If an unplanned interruption of water service is required, the District will make reasonable efforts to provide advance notice to affected customers whenever practicable.

Updates regarding this work, including any changes or service impacts, will be posted here.

Recommended Precautions

Before work begins, customers may wish to:

  • Store an adequate supply of drinking water, approximately one gallon per person per day.
  • Fill clean containers with water for cooking and food preparation.
  • Store water for basic cleaning and sanitation.
  • Fill a large container with water for toilet flushing. If needed, approximately one gallon of water poured directly into the toilet bowl will initiate a flush.
