SUDBURY, MA — In celebration of Drinking Water Week (May 4–10, 2025), The Sudbury Water District (“District”) remains dedicated to delivering safe, high-quality tap water to the community.
Recognizing the vital role high-quality drinking water plays in public health, community well-being, and economic growth, the District ensures that safe water supports businesses and institutions, strengthens schools and healthcare systems, and enhances overall quality of life in Sudbury.
As part of our commitment, the District completed its first PFAS removal facility at the Raymond Road Water Treatment Plant last August. Additionally, construction began this past January on a new PFAS removal facility at the East Street Water Treatment Plant. These projects will ensure full compliance with existing state and new federal regulations regarding PFAS in drinking water at both treatment facilities. Two seasonal wells (Wells 4 and 6) are currently in the engineering design phase for PFAS treatment and are scheduled to be bid for construction in late 2026. Once completed, PFAS treatment at Wells 4 and 6 will finalize treatment for all District drinking water sources.
The District is also taking proactive steps to address lead in drinking water. Recently, it completed the initial service line inventory required by the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Lead and Copper Rule Revisions. The District continues to advance the inventory and, upon completion, will have identified customer service lines in order to encourage the replacement of lead and galvanized service lines that require replacement.
While the District is proud to be in compliance, there is still much work that needs to be done. Public cooperation is greatly appreciated as our efforts continue to secure funding opportunities and resources to support these improvements.
The District remains committed to maintaining water quality through a robust approach, which includes:

- Rigorous water quality monitoring
- Transparency and public communication
